We often get asked the question: what is the difference between Blu-rays and DVDs? Is Blu-ray better? You might not see the difference right away, but when you compare the two side-by-side, you’ll see a crisper, cleaner video with Blu-ray. And when it comes to remembering your wedding, you want those memories to be sharper than your own memory so your kids and their kids will be able to enjoy the event as well. Blu-ray has a higher quality with nearly twice the amount of visual information per frame than DVD. This means clarity with enhanced color and details. Eventually, Blu-ray discs will replace DVDs as DVDs once replaced VHS. If you’re worried that there will be yet another type of disc, it will happen but not for a long time. Blu Ray is sticking around for a while and here are a few reasons why:
More Benefits
Blu-rays can store a greater capacity of information compared to DVDs. The extra storage allows videographers to include highlights, behind the scenes, and other extra fun footage on your Blu-ray. Videographers don’t have to sacrifice quality to fit more content.
The extra storage, in combination with fast reading speeds in Blu-ray players allows you to use new interactive features on smart TV sets connected to the internet. The market has been turning more and more toward interactive video. Blu-ray is viable, and cheap to produce media for the interactive and 3D movies starting to be released.
Blu-ray discs are required to be tested for scratch resistance. In contrast, DVDs are not required to be scratch-resistant. One slip and your wedding DVD could potentially not load in the player. Keep your video safe for years to come.
Like most technologies, the cost of Blu-rays will continue to drop and will eventually be close to the price of DVDs. We’re already starting to see this price drop happen on the market.
The only technology remotely close to replacing Blu-ray is digital image files that you can download from the internet or stream, but all it takes is your computer to crash and the file could be gone forever if not backed up to cloud storage or an external devices. Blu-rays are physical discs you can place on a shelf, take with you when you move, and load instantly in a player without waiting for downloads. While digital files will grow in popularity and become easier and easier to use, there will always be a place for physical, tangible Blu-ray discs.
